ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF COUNTRY
Winya Indigenous Furniture acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the lands on which we work, design, and create across the nation we know today as Australia. We pay our deepest respects to Elders past, present and emerging and recognise the enduring connection of First Nations Peoples to land, waters, and culture. As an Indigenous-owned business, we are committed to honouring this connection through our work, supporting Indigenous craftsmanship, and fostering a future of shared respect and opportunity.

WINYA (win-ya) to “Sit now ” in Wiradjuri dialect.
Indigenous-Focused Impact, Sustainably Crafted, Rooted in Country and Culture
Winya is a majority indigenous owned profit-for-purpose business, supplying large scale fit outs and furniture to clients, which in turn generates employment through traineeships across the Australian Furniture Industry for Indigenous people.

Sustainability Initiatives
-
Our Circular Economy Program is central to Winya’s sustainability strategy, and it demonstrates our commitment to reducing environmental impact through a closed-loop system. At Winya, we believe that sustainability isn’t just about producing eco-friendly products; it’s about rethinking the entire lifecycle of our materials.
Through our Take-Back Program, we encourage clients to return their old furniture, which we then repurpose into new, functional pieces. This initiative not only minimises landfill waste but also ensures that the materials we use are given a second life. By embracing circular economy principles, we help our clients reduce their carbon footprint while contributing to the creation of sustainable, long-lasting furniture

At the heart of our sustainability efforts is e-Board, a revolutionary material created by recycling melamine board from decommissioned office furniture. This material significantly reduces the amount of furniture waste that ends up in landfills, contributing to a cleaner, more sustainable environment.
Through the creation of e-Board, Winya is leading the charge in transforming how the furniture industry views waste; by turning old products into high-quality new pieces. This innovation is part of our broader commitment to sustainability, and it’s a solution that reflects both our environmental values and our dedication to creating jobs and opportunities within Indigenous communities.

Winya prioritises responsible sourcing to ensure that the materials used in our furniture have the least possible environmental impact. We work with suppliers who align with our sustainability goals, and we utilise salvaged timbers from mine-site clearing projects. This approach not only helps reduce deforestation but also provides vital economic opportunities for remote Indigenous communities, where jobs are often scarce. By repurposing timber that would otherwise be burned or discarded, Winya ensures that we contribute to both environmental conservation and community development.

Winya’s commitment to quality and sustainability is reflected in the numerous certifications we hold. We are ISO 9001 (Quality Management) and ISO 14001 (Environmental Management) certified, meaning our operations adhere to the highest global standards for both quality control and environmental responsibility. In addition, our products are AFRDI, BIFMA, Greentick, and Greentag certified, ensuring that our furniture meets rigorous industry standards for safety, performance, and environmental impact. These certifications provide assurance to our customers that Winya is not only committed to high-quality products but also to maintaining the highest ethical and environmental standards.
